Out and about in the countryside
GEOCACHE At the ‘Buitenman’
De Buitenman is surrounded by a beautiful nature reserve that’s perfect for an adventurous geocaching route. During this walk, you’ll discover narrow woodland paths, picturesque avenues, heathland and the lovely village of Panneven. Along the way, you’ll enjoy peace and quiet, nature and surprising spots that you might otherwise walk right past.
Geocaching makes walking even more fun and interactive. Using a GPS or smartphone, you set off in search of hidden caches and puzzles along the route. This makes the walk appealing not only to keen geocachers, but also to families, groups of friends and leisure walkers who want to explore the area in a fun way.
The route combines nature, relaxation and adventure, offering visitors a unique way to discover the stunning area around De Buitenman.

Cycling from the outsider’s perspective
The Kempen, to the south-west of Eindhoven, boasts vast forests and heathland, ideal for lovely cycle rides along the excellent cycle paths. It also has a rich history, with many stories about the ‘Eight Blessings’ (typical Kempen villages), the ‘Teuten’ and the ‘contente mens’.
In short, in this area you not only get a taste of the Burgundian way of life in beautiful surroundings, but you can actually enjoy it too.
Cycling routes are available to download below; routes are also on sale at the local tourist information office.

The surrounding area
As you can see in this video, our farm, ‘De Buitenman’, is situated right in the heart of this picturesque region. It is surrounded by a wooded area: ‘Landgoed de Utrecht’, covering 2,600 hectares and of exceptional natural and historical value.
This is the countryside where footpaths wind their way from inn to inn: from the legendary
‘In den Bockenreijder’ in Dun, to the Landhoeve Herberg ‘De Buitenman’ situated in the old hamlet of ’t Wellenseind,
or D’n Brandtoren on the ‘Peelse Heide’ and the tavern ‘Het Jachthuis’ across the border in Poppel.
Establishments where one feels transported back a century in time.
A vast park on the estate opposite the ’t Rustoord hotel and restaurant (formerly a holiday and convalescent home for employees of the insurance company of the same name) features a number of remarkable trees and a large pond.
Nearby you will find a distinctive fire tower with foresters’ cottages, and scattered throughout the estate you will come across old tenant farms. The De Utrecht Estate is not only an absolute highlight from a natural history perspective; it also enjoys a special reputation as a recreational destination. For lovers of woodland walks and cycle rides, the surrounding area – with dozens of kilometres of signposted routes – is almost a paradise. A walk or cycle ride past the vast, stunning fens of De Flaes and Het Goor, or across the Mispeleindse, Neterselse and Wellenseindse Heide, is highly recommended for everyone. The area is rich in flora and fauna and serves as a breeding ground for many rare birds.
Significant parts of the De Utrecht estate have now been granted protected area status.
The cosy and often bustling terraces, events and markets in the region stand in stark contrast to the serene tranquillity you’ll find in the beautiful countryside or at one of the small, old chapels.
Three ‘highlights’ are the picturesque villages of Hilvarenbeek, Eersel and Oirschot, whose village centres
are listed as protected monuments. When you stroll around them, you’ll understand why…
On the edge of the ‘green’ Kempen lie Eindhoven and Tilburg, young, dynamic cities with a modern feel and a warm, Brabant heart. With the large indoor shopping centre ‘Heuvel Galerie’ in Eindhoven and the ‘Emma Passage’ in Tilburg, they are shopping destinations par excellence.
Just across the border in Belgium, you’ll find the Flemish Kempen region with its main towns of Turnhout and Antwerp, where you can experience the good life of the Low Countries.
The Kempenaar represents the ‘Contented Person’, who still enjoys everyday life
and all the beautiful things around them in a carefree way. The Kempenaar is justifiably proud of their region and would love
to share that pride with you. You are therefore most welcome.
