Poachers’ tales Long ago, a group of poachers known as the ‘Heikant Gang’ struck fear into the hearts of the people of the Kempen for years. They were well organised and used ingenious methods to catch game without being caught. When the authorities finally caught up with them, it turned out the gang had fled to a hidden network of caves and tunnels. Some believe that treasures belonging to this gang still lie hidden in the woods.
He would appear on the dark nights of the Brabant Kempen: the night hunter. Nobody knew his name, but his hunt for game made him notorious. In the barn by the inn, a group of gamekeepers gather. They make plans to set a trap one autumn night to catch the night hunter. They lay out some bait, and… the shadow of the night hunter appears. The gamekeepers rush towards it, but in the ensuing chaos, the night hunter vanishes back into the darkness. He was never caught. To this day, some whisper that he still roams the De Utrecht Estate…
