Welcome to our cosy inn
Come in and have a little taster. This 400-year-old Kempen farmhouse was once a tenant farm belonging to the lords of Postel. Tastefully furnished and home-grown, the barn is used for culinary activities. The front part of the building is the inn, where travellers can relax on the terrace after a long walk or cycle ride in the summer, or by the open fire inside the inn in the winter.
By a crackling open fire and in romantic candlelight, you can escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. Enjoy local culinary specialities in the form of daily specials, prepared using organic produce from the Kempen region. Whether you’re popping in for a drink with a platter of farm-fresh produce – we offer a choice of 45 types of beer – or fancy a quick daily special after or during work.
Perhaps enjoy an evening’s dining and spend the evening in good company by the crackling open fire… Stop for lunch during your cycle ride or walk, or take time out for a cup of coffee with freshly baked apple tart. At De Buitenman, there are no sustainability labels or certification marks. Everything comes from our own kitchen and is fresh daily, organic and sourced from our own farm or from the Kempen region.
Packages
Enjoy a pleasant outing with the whole group or simply get some fresh air and take in the beautiful natural surroundings at Landgoed De Utrecht. Our packages offer you a choice of various long and short walks, combined with, for example, a beer tasting, a ‘smuggler’s’ package, or simply coffee and a slice of fresh apple cake on your return. You can book these packages in advance, but you’re also welcome to just pop into the inn.
Smuggler’s Package
On arrival, you’ll be served coffee or tea with a slice of fresh apple pie. You’ll then set off on a walk along an old smuggling route through the beautiful Kempen countryside of the De Utrecht Estate. The walk is around 16 kilometres. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a delicious three-course meal, made with produce from our own farm, consisting of a choice of two soups, a choice of three main courses and a dessert prepared by the farmer’s wife, accompanied by Gageleer, the Buitenman’s cross-border house beer. In winter, individual bookings are only possible on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Pubs Package
On arrival, you’ll be served De Buitenman’s house beer, our Gageleer. You’ll then set off on a walking route, with a cosy little pub as a stop-off point, where you can enjoy a speciality beer if you like. At the end of this walk, you’ll return to De Buitenman, where you’ll taste three different types of beer. During this beer tasting, you’ll be served a platter of all sorts of delicacies from our farm. In winter, individual bookings are only available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Knapzak package
On arrival, you’ll be served coffee or tea with a slice of homemade apple pie. You’ll then set off on a walk through the beautiful ‘De Utrecht’ estate, and we’ll provide you with a rucksack so you can enjoy a picnic at a lovely spot on the estate. You can extend or shorten the walk to suit your own preferences, and it takes you past the most beautiful spots in our Kempen region. In winter, individual walks are only available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Farmer’s breakfast
A delicious farm breakfast with homemade cold meats, cheeses from ‘de Hooiberg’, a boiled egg, fruit salad, a selection of breads and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Bookings can only be made on Saturdays and Sundays.
Celebrations & Parties
At De Buitenman, you can celebrate in a charming, rural setting on our farm with its organic asparagus farm. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary or company party, we’ll be delighted to provide lunch, dinner or a buffet in our culinary barn. Here you can enjoy simple, unpretentious dishes, prepared with fresh, seasonal produce from our own land and the local area.
Fancy something a bit extra? Combine your party with a guided tour of the farm or a walk past our grazing cows in the stream valley. Our culinary barn also features a large screen for presentations or personal videos.
